Dr Emanuele Fino

School of Psychology

My research focusses on the intersections between personality and identity, answering the questions as to how individuals differ in their identity perceptions and to what extent that influences their capacity to deal with adversities and affects their mental health. I am also interested and actively researching in the area of psychological assessment, including scale development and the study of the cross-cultural adaptability and invariance of measures.

Research Interests

I welcome projects on the expression, measurement, and the interplay of personality, identity, and psychopathology across various contexts, using quantitative methods like psychometrics, latent variable modelling, network analysis.

Examples:

  • Personality and identity in the onset of and recovery from, e.g., depersonalisation-derealisation, eating disorders, addictive behaviours.
  • Cross-cultural examination of the generalisability and validity of 'Dark' and maladaptive personality models.
  • Personality and the 'social cure', i.e., how personality influences the way interpersonal relationships, support, and other social-identity related resources feed into health outcomes.
  • Interplay of individual differences and contextual factors in changes to residential mobility.
  • Research on personality, identity, and mattering/purpose in life in relation to well-being and performance across various contexts.
